Windows Guides Feed

If you have downloaded the free books from Windows Guides (or any PDF) and it won’t open, you may see any of the following messages:

  • Invalid Adobe PDF
  • Error Locating Object Handler
  • Adobe reader could not open the file ‘ABC.pdf’ because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been corrupted (for example it has been sent as an email attachment and wasn’t correctly decoded
  • An Internal Error Occurred
  • Other obscure and unhelpful messages

This guide will take you through basic troubleshooting steps you can use to view PDF files that seem to work for every one else but you.

Firefox Addons: Collection 1

For several years now, I have been using Firefox.  It is, in my opinion, the best browser available – far superior to IE or Google Chrome.  This can be disputed, and often has, and I will be looking into all of these distinctions in my upcoming series of articles on the subject of browsers.  One of the most impressive thing about Firefox is the wide range of addons available that allow it to do just about everything.

I’ve often seen collections of ‘Top 10 Firefox Addons’, and so on, and I always think that they have left out the best addons.  So here is my interpretation of the whole genre.  I will be doing several collections of these addons, and my first one will be a collection of all the addons that I am running on my computer.  Please note:  I am running Minefield 3.7a2pre on Windows 7 and all of them work, though some of them have had compatibility overridden.  I am also running the apps, previously mentioned, that make Firefox look like Firefox 4.0.

Outlook 2010 Outlook 2010 – Part 2: Setting up Accounts [How To]To set up an email account in Outlook 2010 is very straight forward. You get started by clicking the orange File button. This will show the new file-menu system. Here you can add and edit accounts, cleanup your mailbox and create Rules and Alerts. All you’re existing accounts (if any) will show up in the top part of the window.

In this article we’ll be setting up two account types:

  • POP3/SMTP account
  • Windows Live/Hotmail account
