Posted by Thomas On August - 10 - 2010ADD COMMENTS

joinme toolbar LogMeIn Express is now Join.meYou might remember the article about LogMeIn Express (Remote Desktop, No Installation Required). I just checked in on the site and discovered that is has gone Pro. Though they still claim it’s in beta stage.

The service is totally refurbished with both a new look (icons, design etc.) and a very short and handy URL: join.me.

Stop identity Theft EXIF: Your Personal Information May be Stored in Your Digital PhotosEver heard of EXIF ? Neither had I until recent. EXIF (Exchangeable Image File) is data stored in JPEG and TIFF image files, such as shutter speed, date and time, focal length, exposure compensation, metering pattern, image source, date for edit and if a flash was used a the time a photo was taken.

But EXIF also stores more information than that.

If you’re a fan of the CSI series (or any other crime fighting series), you have undoubtedly seen that they from time to time try to verify if a photo has been altered in any way. What they draw their conclusion on, is the EXIF Data stored in the file. What they don’t tell you is that some equipment also stores your GPS-position which may lead someone to your home adress, phonenumber, income etc.

Ever Notice Weird Behaviour in Windows?

Posted by Spazz On August - 8 - 20103 COMMENTS

[Ed note] This is Spazz’s first post for Windows Guides. We’d like to officially welcome him.

Being new to the writer’s side of things, suddenly you realize how difficult it is to think of something to write. I suddenly got a great deal of respect for writers. Thinking it over many times, I simply couldn’t think of anything, then it happened…

Inserting my flash drive into my PC at work last week and getting the error message that it was not recognized. I found this strange. Then after removing it from the PC, I kept getting the message and it just simply wouldn’t go away. Now my PC remains on and logged in for weeks at a time. This problem bugged me as I knew I encountered it before, but couldn’t quite place my finger on it.

List of the Best Free Portable Applications

Posted by Rich On August - 4 - 2010ADD COMMENTS

463 List of the Best Free Portable ApplicationsPortable applications are programs that require no installation and can be used on a thumb drive on any machine that works with thumb drives. Back in college, I would use a portable version of Firefox as it contained all my personalized settings. I’d even carry a portable version of Photoshop to work on images I’d use on this site. That was a long time ago and I don’t really have need for portable applications anymore; however, if you like portable programs (or you want to give them a try), you’ll love this list over at Gizmo’s Freeware.

utorrent+dock uTorrent 2.2 Beta Gets a New Look

I’ve been a fan of uTorrent for a while now.  It’s free, fast, lightweight, highly configurable, cross-platform and now, looks great.

A new look isn’t all uTorrent brings to the table.  Apps have been introduced thanks to Project Griffin meaning extra functionality without bogging down the core client.

Virtual Memory (Paging File) Explained

Posted by Thomas On July - 26 - 20101 COMMENT

memory Virtual Memory (Paging File) ExplainedI was reading a newsletter the other day that was using he words Swap File, Paging File and Virtual Memory, interchangeably. Now this confused me and I realized that this might be a great topic for an article. I’ve been around computers since the age of 7, and I still find those things rather confusing.

I’ve previously written about RAM (Read It Here) so I’m going to assume you have a good grip on that topic. Now let’s dig into the world of Virtual Memory.
