Microsoft is warning users about a fake anti virus product named “Security Essentials 2010″, near identical to the naming of the company’s own protection software.

The fake software is actually the trojan Win32/Fakeinit. If a user installs the software then Fakeinit’s downloader installs a fake scanner component that monitors other processes and attempts to terminate them. In some cases, processes will be flagged as if they are infected.

The trojan also lowers a number of security settings in the registry and changes the desktop background to an unchangeable multicoloured warning: YOUR SYSTEM IS INFECTED

Please be advised and Do NOT download this software!

PROS: The program is very easy to use right out of the box. It works quickly and silently in the background without taking up too much of you CPU.

CONS: The final reports after analyzing and de-fragmenting can be long and difficult to read for novices. I would want to see more help-information being provided in click-able links throughout the reports.

VERDICT: An affordable defrag solution that actually improves your computer and registry without causing new errors.

PRICE: $34,95 per license (3 user license)

VERSION REVIEWED: 4.4.2

New to using the command prompt? Check out the Windows Command Prompt Beginner’s Guide

command prompt Cant Delete a File? Use the Command Prompt [How To]Have you ever experienced that windows won’t allow you to delete a file, presumably because some service or dll is still using it ? Even when you know for a fact that it’s not in use ? Or maybe you have tried to delete a folder, but you couldn’t because a “File in the selected folder is still in use by Windows” ?

Oh, I can hear you: “yes, but I use the “take ownership” function that I’ve added to my Context menu”. ALAS, Sometimes not even that will work – what then ? Do you have to Reboot your computer to be able to delete that file ?

Earlier, Harry had an article about the Command Prompt (read it here) and his top ten commands. One of those were the command we are looking to use now: DELETE (DEL).

Posted by Thomas On February - 23 - 20105 COMMENTS

RemoteDesktop Remote Desktop, No Installation Required FreewareEveryone who knows me, knows I’m a bit more than normally interested in Computers. So of course whom do they contact when they have problems with theirs ? Lucky guess. But figuring the problem over the phone isn’t always as easy, and some of my friends being “Twelve O’Clock Flashers” – explaining them what to do isn’t all that easy either.

The best way, sometimes, is using Remote Desktop. But this usually involves getting the already troubled users to download and install a small client of some sort and guide them through that.  And, well… Let’s just say I sometimes hate being the one they call. However…

I’ve come a cross a great tool for the job, which allows me to help without all that hassle – and best of all – it’s free !!
