Recently, rsvr85 taught how to customize the Windows 7 start orb. If you’re looking for some custom Start Orb images, find them here on Windows Forums. If you’d like to remove the Start button (and use the Windows key instead), you can do that too.
Being a geek (Yes I admit), I like to have full control over my computer. I want to know what is running, when it does and why it behaves like that ? I also like to know what (if any) did that program i just installed want to run at startup. And especially since my kids - without any concern – download and install games, movies and whatnot on my computer (even tho they have their own) - I really like to know what is booting, and what is slowing me down at present.

Using Virtual Machines is a great way to test software without making changes to your ‘main’ machine.
To create a virtual machine in Windows 7 without using 3rd party software you’ll need to download Microsoft’s Virtual PC. If you also want XP-mode, help yourself. Both are available here.
Once you’ve installed Windows Virtual PC you’ll probably want to create other VM’s running other OS’s.
To do that, do the following;
