Customize Folder Icons 3
If you like to customize your folder icons in Vista, you can either download custom icons or use Windows’ build in icons. In this guide, you’ll learn how to change a folder icon and how to find more icons, which are built right into Vista.

Customize Folder Icons

To customize folder icons, do the following:

  1. Right click on the folder you want to customize and click Properties
  2. Under the Customize tab, click Change Icon…Customize Folder Icons 1
  3. Select an icon from the list and click OK
  4. Click OK on the folder properties screen to save changes

Locating More Icons

To find more folder icons, do the following:

  1. Right click on the folder you want to customize and click Properties
  2. Under the Customize tab, click Change Icon…
  3. On the Change Icon For… screen, highlight SHELL32.dll (in the path for icons)
  4. Replace SHELL32.dll with imageres.dllCustomize Folder Icons 2
  5. Browse for a new icon and follow steps 3 and 4 above

Now you can add your personal touch to your system. Below is an example of my E (Media) partition.
