PROS: Search function to find your favorite app. Works on most thumb drives. Effortless, though slow, installation. Convenience on the go. CONS: While necessary, installation can take over an hour. Difficult to customize which programs you want to see on the list. VERDICT: LiberKey is a great program that can be used as a toolkit on the go. If you help friends with their computer’s, this will take you a long way. Just like any Thumb drive program bundle, you get a lot of what you don’t need and are sometimes left without your favorite programs, which you’ll have to install separately. If you have an iPhone or iPod touch, you can now use Windows Forums on it. In this guide, you’ll learn how to set your iPhone up to browse the forums.

There was some previous interest for Windows Forums on the iPhone and to be honest, I was hoping something like this would come along because I didn’t want to customize the forums myself only to find a professional solution was in the works. I have no idea how long this app has been out, but after a search for “phpbb” (the software on which Windows Forums runs) on the Apple App Store, this was the only solution I could find.

Please note: In this guide, I show you the Lite version of the app. You can buy the normal version for $0.99 USD, which enables private messaging and removes the “Posted with TouchBB Lite” message at the bottom of each post (well, probably, but I haven’t tried.) Read the rest of this entry »

1. Make sure it’s properly encrypted

When traveling or working remotely, you can never be too sure about the integrity of your network or the other people who might be using it. When picking an online backup system for your Windows laptop, make sure you pick one that offers the right encryption options for your needs.

If you’re worried about securing the confidential data stored on your laptop, you want to make sure that your data is properly encrypted during transmission using a strong protocol such as SSL, and that the data stays encrypted when stored on the providers remote server using a password that’s only known by you. (And not the online backup provider)

Microsoft Word 2010

Now, as I am sure you have heard, Office 2010 has been released to developers as a technical preview. I have managed to secure a copy, so I will review it now for all those who weren’t lucky enough to acquire it. So, what can you expect from this revolutionary new software suite, planned to be seamlessly integrated with Microsoft’s Web-Apps?

Now web-apps have only been released to a select few, randomly chosen, to have their skydrive upgraded to include web-apps. I was not a member of the lucky few, so I won’t be posting screenshots off of the internet on here. If you want these, or you want to read a review of them, you can Google the subject.

I wish I could say that this is free, but none of the free options were high enough quality for me to recommend. That being said, it is by far the best solution for remoting into your Windows machine. Whether you are a gadget lover who likes having the coolest toys, the productivity geek who needs to have multiple solutions to every problem, or even the Windows SYS Admin who wants to be prepared…. just in case; if you need the best solution to remote in, I recommend Jaadu. It’s 25 bucks, which for an iPhone app isn’t cheap, but if you need remote desktop access it’s 25 dollars well-spent.
