208 220x220 Log on to Any Windows 8 PC and Use Your Personal SettingsAlthough many features included in early OS builds never make the final cut, this is one I hope will stay. Picture this: you log on to your PC at home and get it just the way you want. Now, when you go to a different PC, you can use these same settings just by logging in. I think this is a great feature and, although it’s something I’ve wanted for years, it’s not a simple feature to implement. If this one makes it to Windows 8, I hope it works and it works very well.

Here’s some of the data that will be synced:

  • Personalization: Desktop background image, Windows colors
  • Accessibility: All accessibility related tools and settings, including the magnifier, on screen keyboard and speech recognition settings
  • Language Settings: The language profile, text prediction preferences and dictionary
  • Application Settings: Settings for applications and the search history
  • Windows Settings: Taskbar, Windows Explorer, Search and Mouse settings
  • Credentials: Wireless network profiles and website credentials

    Thanks for
this article, Rich. It would be great if this feature made it into the final
version of Windows 8. It would be really nice to be able to sync the settings
on your personal PC to your work computer for example. There’s so many rumors
floating around about this new Windows version – it will be disappointing if
many of these features don’t end up getting included!
