windows 7 dvd 150x150 Burn the Windows 7 ISO to a DVD [How To]Many of you may have already downloaded the Windows 7 ISO image, but are having problems buring the ISO to a DVD disc.

UPDATE: You can download the RTM versions of Windows 7 Ultimate, Professional, and Home Premium here (64/32-bit available.)

Windows Guides user rsvr85 is one user who expressed the following issue:

Hey guys,
Ok, so i’ve downloaded the Windows 7 beta from the links you have on your site.
I’ve downloaded both the 64bit and the 32bi, i’m not sure if i will be able to run the 64bit as im currently running Premium 32bit, (I do have a 64bit processor!)
I’ve tried to burn the ISO to a DVD-RW using Alcohol 120%, PowerISO & ISO Burner all unsucessfully.
I’m no sure if it’s me and i’m missing a critical point here but i’ve set the format to a mastered burn tried to burn, the program says it’s been a sucess but when i ty to explore the disc it asks me what i want to name it and what format type i want it in.  This is becoming very frustrating as i have downloaded both ISO’s and i dont want to have to delete them from my system!  I have un-installed the SP2 Beta i had on my PC thanks to the advice from you guys, i have created a 25GB partition on my HDD and i’m all ready to rock!!
Whats going wrong?? i think it may be my DVD Drive??

In this guide, you’ll learn how to successfully burn the ISO to a DVD so you are ready to install Windows 7.

Could be either; I’d use the IMG Burn and burn it at 2x. If the disc fails again, you need to re-acquire the ISO.

That media might be bad. Try re-burning the DVD at the slowest speed possible or use a USB stick to install ;)

worked great – I downloaded the $30 student version and chose to ignore the authentication code the first time and later activated thru computer-properties-link at the bottom of the page — did a custom install from vista 32 to 64 windows 7 – burned the disc at 4x

ImgBurn creates two files, one of them the .ISO you refer to, the other a *.MDS file. You sure this works without that second file?

  • http://richr.org/ Rich

Yes, you only need the ISO. An MDS file, or Media Descriptor file, is an optional file that contains metadata about the disc. This file is not needed when burning an ISO to a disc.

  • Liudas Gedgaudas

Do i need to delete old windows before installin g new ones ?

  • http://richr.org/ Rich

Yes, it is recommended to only use one operating system at a time unless you want to dual/tri etc. boot.

  • Tigers7493

My problem is that I can not get the Windows 64bit ISO to burn correctly onto dvd so I can do custom installation. Right now i have windows xp32bit and my system support 64bit. I have to use the 64bit for my school and work and I already know have to do custom installation. The problem is that the setup.exe tells me it is an invalid winds32 application. I can't install windows 7 64bit even at bootup due to I have no icon or image to install it.

  • http://richr.org/ Rich

You cannot install (upgrade) Windows 7 64 bit while running 32-bit Windows. You need to boot from the disk i.e. when your computer first turns on–not after Windows is loaded.
