For the next week, I’m going to run a series of guides that will help you build and run a website on your Windows machine.

If you would like to build your own website, you can do it on your own computer without putting it online. This can be useful for a number of reasons:

  1. You don’t have your own web hosting but you want the experience of complete access
  2. You want to test a website before you put it online
  3. You want to start a website that helps you organize your life, for example, but you don’t always have access to the internet

To get these guides, you can subscribe to the RSS feed (don’t know what RSS is?), or subscribe by e-mail.

Sounds Great! I’ve always wanted to test scripts and HTML on my laptop before I put them on my site with WebTV. This would give me a way of doing that. Thanks!

@Robert – Thanks for the suggestion — we’ll have to save that guide for sometime soon.

@All – Thanks — I’m looking forward to this too :)

very nice..

another good topic, just for sugeat, is how to make webservers (apache http) more security. I think that is a problem when noob people configure an web server and dont care about it.

thks..

Thanks for the suggestion Felipe. Do you know much about Apache security? (I don’t know much, but I’d love to learn.)

I just installed Wordpress to a new server for me (I’m still getting it running so the link on my name is my old server -still works, though) so I am looking forward to getting some tips from these guides.

Hey this is an awesome week! I’m excited for this as I’m just getting into web design (and I just finished my class in HTML and JavaScript). Thanks Rich!

I haven’t done anything with websites before. I am self-taught in VBA and I can find my way around in ASP. Is that enough knowledge to be able to use this?

Yes, with the coming guides, you’ll never touch code until you make the decision to. We’ll cover Wordpress and Drupal–both are written in PHP.

WOW First let me say a big thank you for this, it well be a great project for me to try out, as they say you are never to old to learn, lets see what 73 years can learn.

Rich, if possible post how to install PhpNuke too.

Francisco. Once you have WAMP set up, please follow these instructions (I’ve not tested them myself)
