logmein01 LogMeIn Free Lets You Remotely Access Your Computer PROS: The free version gives you access to your PC with no restrictions that would make it difficult to use your PC remotely.

CONS: The only con is the pro features are not free but I have no objections to their pricing structure.

VERDICT: If you want to work on your PCs remotely, this tool will do everything you need. You don’t need to set any complicated firewall rules, set up any kind of DNS to access your PC, or worry about anything complicated. LogMeIn just works.

PRICE: Free (For LogMeIn Free)

VERSION REVIEWED: Host version 4.1.0.1578

Restore Lost Data and Repair Damaged Files [How To]

Posted by Guest Post On February - 11 - 20112 COMMENTS

In this guest post, Tibor Schiemann, President and Managing Partner of TuneUp discusses how to restore lost data and repair damaged file. Find out more about Tibor at the end of this post.

Have you ever accidentally deleted the wrong photo? Or emptied the Recycle Bin and not realized that an important folder was in it? Unfortunately, it only takes a single mouse-click to lose a file.

So, what is the best way to go about restoring this lost data? It’s important to avoid write operations on the hard disk or flash drive inup anymore.question—if you can. Deleted files are never actually erased or destroyed; only the “pointer” to that specific file is gone, so it will not show

The good news is that the data will remain intact. The bad news, however, is that the Windows file system will mark the file as “overwriteable”. What this means is that the physical space used to store the deleted file is now designated as free space, where new programs can be installed, new files can be saved, or new data can be created. The accidentally deleted file will most likely be fully or partially overwritten, and in the latter case, it will be damaged.

angry birds screenshot 500x300 Angry Birds for WindowsWhether or not you like playing games on your cellphone, you may have noticed people so hung up on a certain game that they hardly recognize anything around them. Which game is it? It’s called “Angry Birds”. The game first appeared on iPhone and has since then moved on to other platforms. Having a Windows Mobile, I know It will never reach my phone, as the developers have claimed NEVER to transfer the game to that platform. But in a small way (or should I say big) they have yielded – the game is now available for Windows PC. And it works on all window platforms.

If you wonder about the HALF star up there, the game’s only flaw is that it’s so addictive…

Do You Run Virtual Machines? Which Ones? [Poll]

Posted by Rich On January - 31 - 20111 COMMENT

Virtual Windows XP Logo Do You Run Virtual Machines? Which Ones? [Poll]Update: The results are in.

Previously, we showed you what Windows Virtual PC and XP Mode are, how to create any virtual machine with Windows Virtual PC, and how to create a virtual PC with Virtual Box.

I use virtual machines frequently (mostly to write guides for this site when I need to test a tweak in different versions of Windows) and sometimes just to learn how to use another operating system like Linux Mint or Free BSD for example.

Here at Windows Guides, we love your feedback and have a quick poll for you to share your feedback with us:

Which Windows 7 Version do You Really Need?

Posted by Thomas On January - 28 - 20119 COMMENTS

windows 7 packages 500x222 Which Windows 7 Version do You Really Need?Buying a new computer these days, chances are, it will come pre-installed with Windows 7 Home Premium Edition. That makes sense from the vendor’s standpoint, as the license for Home Premium costs less and it still has most of the functionality and features that the average user will want. But what if you aren’t the average user?

Looking to Upgrade? How to upgrade Windows 7 to Windows 7 Professional

Some Vendors only offer the Windows 7 Starter Edition, which in my point of view is a sham to make you pay even more money for your computer. Steer away from these offers I say – unless of course you enjoy NOT being able to change your wallpaper – ever again.
