Seven iTunes Alternatives You Should Consider Using

Posted by Rich On July - 19 - 2010

Reluctantly, I use iTunes as I have an Apple phone and I want to keep it synchronized with my PC. As with most electronic devices that sync with your PC, you are stuck using the proprietary software needed to communicate with the device. iTunes isn’t all that bad, but I set out looking for good alternative to iTunes and here is what I found.

In this guide, I look at seven iTunes alternatives and compare them side by side to give you an option to use them as an alternative to iTunes.

Best Free Media Players

Posted by Rich On May - 17 - 2010

In this article, I share five of the best free media players for Windows. If you have suggestions for other media players, let us know in the comments.

I chose these media players with the following requirements in mind:

  • The media player should play most file types out of the box.
  • The media player should be free and not include adware, spyware etc.
  • The media players should work on all recent versions of Windows (XP, Vista, and 7.)

Five-way Battle: Chrome, Safari, Opera, IE8, and Firefox

Posted by NJWest On January - 30 - 2010

Ten years ago, when the web was new and everything was simpler, the choice of what browsers to use was much easier, with the only choice being whether to get NetScape or Internet Explorer.  Now, with the choices so wide, it can often leave a user swamped.  There are 5 main competitors to try and assume the place of your main web-browser. Getting startED Windows 7Joseph Moran and Kevin Otnes are both writers who have a long history in technical documentation and other tech-related endeavours. In this interview, we get to know Kevin and Joseph and then I’ll share a little about their book “Getting StartED Windows 7” (Amazon)

Interview with Joseph Moran & Kevin Otnes

RICH: Joe, you say you like to play Tennis; what else do you like to do outside of the world of computers?

JOE: I’m a big movie fan, though considering the way I watch most of them– on Blu-Ray disc or via digital download– I guess that barely qualifies as outside the realm of computers. Considering how much time I spend seated in front of glowing screens, I do try to get outdoors as often as possible– biking is another activity I’ve recently rediscovered (though with a GPS mounted to the handlebars, even that isn’t quite computer-free!).

Jailbreak Your Device on 3.1.2 Firmware [How To]

Posted by Stu On January - 6 - 2010

Jailbreaking your iPhone or iPod touch couldn’t be easier thanks to geohot.  This jailbreak will work for iPhone 3G, 3GS, iPod Touch 1st 2nd & 3rd Gen.  If your SIM Card is not legit, (ie. unlocked) do not attempt this.

I’m using an iPhone 3G for this guide so the steps depicted herein will be iPhone 3G.

Why Jailbreak?

Jailbreaking is a process that allows iPhone and iPod Touch users to run unofficial code on their devices bypassing Apple‘s official distribution mechanism, the App Store. Once jailbroken, iPhone users are able to download many applications previously unavailable through the App Store via unofficial installers such as Cydia, Rock App, Icy, and Installer. Cydia is popular with users whilst Rock App has a small catalog of mainly paid apps. Icy and Installer are officially unsupported by their developers and rarely used. Cydia founder Jay Freeman estimates that 8.5% of all iPods and iPhones are jailbroken.[1] A jailbroken iPhone or iPod Touch is still able touse and update apps downloaded and purchased from Apple’s official App Store.”

Wiki…

Basically put, Jailbreaking your device breaks the Apple shackles and opens a whole new world of apps, themes, sounds & much much more!
