I have a friend who is all MAC. Everything in his house is MAC-Something. Phone, sound system, stereo, tv, the works. What’s neat about his setup is the ability to control everything via his iPhone. Whenever he wants to put on some music, watch some TV, play a game, he taps his iPhone app, choose the playlist and Presto … no matter where in the house he is . Being a bit envy – and not being able to afford an entire MAC-based setup – I checked to see if I could find something usable for my Windows Mobile or my Android Mobile. And guess what? I Did… for both!

GRemote is a commercial product (9,95 USD) that works on Windows Mobile and Android Phones. It works as a remote control for your computer with full support for programs like Windows Media Center, MediaPlayer, WinAmp, VLC, Windows Explorer, Mouse, TouchPad etc. If you use WinAmp or Windows Media Player you get the entire playlist and search function right there on your phone.
GRemote can be programmed to support any program, using the GMedia feature, that allow you to program buttons to correspond to the application buttons and keys. This way you can control any media application using Forward, Next, Rewind, Previous, Play, Pause, volume up/down etc.
If you love to play games on your computer, but don’t have a joystick or game controller – GRemote will function as one. It comes with different Joystick, Touchpad, keyboard and Mouse Features that will suit your ever need. Hook your computer to the Big Screen TV and control Windows Media Center from your couch.
Control PC over 3G, WiFi or Bluetooth
You can control your PC over WiFi networks, 3G or Bluetooth service, so if you have any problems with firewall just use bluetooth, but if you need wide range use WiFi. Which is awesome functionality. I have connected GRemote through my WiFi and now I too can control my stereo from anywhere around the house.
Remote file explorer
You can even browse media files and or presentations (Powerpoint etc) directly from your phone!!! ? You can add tracks to WinAmp playlist or just open any document you want, directly from the explorer file view on your phone. Especially useful if you connect to a big screen or projector.
But how hard is it to get it working ? All you have to do is to install the program on your computer. The installation program will install the client software on your phone if it is connected to the computer. Then ask the phone client to search for the server and, about 10 seconds later you are online.
Programming the device to suit your needs take 5 to 10 minutes to learn, just follow the online video training and you are set.
Free Version and Pro version, free upgrades
There is a free version simply called GRemote. It is basically the same as the Pro, only with less support. It is version 0,52 and the Pro version is 1.5 (at present) You may also download the Pro version and try it free to see that it is working for you. If you can afford to pay $10 it’s truly worth it. You get life time upgrades for free so the price is merely just to support further development.
