Add Jump to Registry to IE context menu

There are quite a few registry hacks on this website that help you get the most out of your computer. Sometimes the keys are buried deep in the registry, so in this guide, you’ll learn how to put a ‘Jump to registry’ item on the context menu in IE or Firefox. The IE version is inspired by WinhelpOnline. Thanks Ramesh.

Jump to Registry in Internet Explorer

My inspiration for this came from the Windows Sysinternals website, where I found RegJump. Regjump is a command line tool that takes a string registry path and opens it in Regedit.

  1. Download Regjump
  2. Unzip RegJump.exe and put it in your Windows folder

Add ‘Jump to Registry’ to IE Context Menu

Depending on your version of Windows, you’ll need either of the following files:

Windows Vista

  1. Download vista-regjump.zip
  2. Extract the archive and double click vista-regjump.reg
  3. Move the file jumptoregistry.htm to the C:WindowsWeb directory

NOTE: Double click vista-remove-regjump.reg to remove this hack.
You will need to be running IE as an administrator if you are using UAC.

Windows XP

  1. Download xp-regjump.zip
  2. Extract the archive and double click xp-regjump.reg
  3. Move the file jumptoregistry.htm to the C:WindowsWeb directory

NOTE: Double click xp-remove-regjump.reg to remove this hack.

How Does it Work?

  1. Open IE and go to this page
  2. Highlight the registry key
  3. Right click and choose Open Key in Registry
  4. Windows Registry Editor will open directly to the selected key

Jump to Registry in Firefox

Fortunately, there is an Add-on for Firefox. Get it here.
