gigabit network switch

i wanna use this and bypass my router.just cable modem to switch.but i can only get it to read my comp and not my wives.came with little to no instructions.thanks

NIC's? etc.

windows 7 on both.but that has nothing to do with it.networking is networking.

What do you mean "get it to read"? I'm not sure I understand. So you're connecting the switch to the router via ethernet and then the 2 PCs through ethernet to the switch, and only one is connecting to the network? Is that correct? What brand/model are the modem and switch?
