I was following this guide on mintywhite for installing mac OS X 10.5.6. then when I boot up the DVD, its fine. I wait untill it boots up the installer and then when it tells me to choose the language, I move the mouse and it doesn't work at all. I even tried rebooting the DVD and remove and put back the mouse. then I tried using the external mouse but it still diddn't work. Please help me ASAP!

The problem is that little or no hardware is supported at bootup with this DVD, because it's really hard to get PC hardware working on OS X. It basically does all it can just to boot, and then you choose your hardware during the installation to make sure the actual OS X installation will work. Is it a USB mouse? If so, try a PS/2 mouse if you have one. If you don't, try these tips:

Go into your BIOS and inspect your USB loading sequence (for lack of a better term). I had to change a few settings in my desktop's BIOS to get the motherboard to boot the USB drivers BEFORE it started to boot the DVD. That way the MB recognized the mouse before it started to load the DVD. I suspect this may not be happening on your rig.

Also, if this doesn't work/apply to you, try loading the DVD with the -v and -f flags from the boot prompt. This will boot into verbose mode (actually looking at the code scrolling across the screen and not just the pretty Apple spinning wheel) and will suspend the driver loading, possibly fixing the problem. Let me know how this works!

Okay, I found out how I did it finally. I have a Gigabyte motherboard with an Award BIOS, and I had to go into a menu called "Integrated Peripherals" and Enable USB Mouse Support and USB Keyboard Support for them to work before Windows loads the drivers. I use a wireless combo keyboard/mouse, and after I changed this the installation with OS X went fine. Try that out.
