That worked pretty good for awhile, but now it's not working quite so well. It's reverted to much of its old behavior. Except, I noticed something new, whenever it goes into a lag spike, the download speed on my torrents will drop to almost zero, I'm not sure if this is because uTorrent is trying to write the buffer to HDD before getting more data, but, I find it strange. In addition, Google Chrome slows down to a crawl in browsing speed, although the browser responds normally in all other fashions.

The app i suggested to you was only ever for temporary troubleshooting use. If your hard drives were coded to sleep after x-minutes (which is what your problem sounded like) then this app would've stop that and the drive would've been operable as normal.
The fact that with this app you're still experiencing troubles, leads me to suggest exercising your warranty or replacing the hard drives is your best bet. If they're behaving like this brand new, they'll be toast in a years time.

Ok in that case, do you know of any effective way to get Western Digital to give me an RMA? I asked them for one if they couldn't give me an answer but when they couldn't give me an answer, they didn't give me one. I'm thinking I'm not going to be getting one from them easily...

I don't see why a RMA would be difficult. If the dives are mint condition, in the original packaging and with a receipt of purchase, not many companies wouldn't accept a return. The drives are clearly faulty and WD should take responsibility of that fact. If you exercise your warranty, chances are, WD would just replace the drive anyway.

I've having the exact same problem, same drive. Didn't do this when I ran vista (for the few days I did). Is it possibly Windows 7 messing with it?

I've been experiencing the same problem for a few days, without finding a mean to solve it. I've tried searching many causes, until I found this thread.

When the problem happens, any application using drive access freezes, which makes me believe that my Caviar Green is the cause of it.


Have you managed to solve it now?
Did you exchange the guilty HDD?

This seems to be a problem specifically with WD & W7.
Contact WD and/or MS.
