175 Best Free Anti malware [2010 Edition]

Update: Here’s the list of Best Free Antivirus Software [2012 Edition]

We’ve reviewed a number of Anti-malware programs on Windows Guides over the years but it seems some programs soon become bloated, include stolen definitions from other products, or just get outshined by new (or improved) competition. In this guide, I share the top five free anti-malware programs for 2010.

Security Automatically Download the Latest Security Software with SSDownloaderIf you are the one who always helps your friend to reformat/reinstall Microsoft Windows on their PC or laptop, most likely you will have their Windows equipped with at least a free anti-virus software (so they will not bug you anymore to do the reinstallation due to incurable viruses), and a couple of maintenance tools for some advanced users. However, since there are new threats and viruses appearing everyday, and the security software companies always have their product updated every week or so, you can’t really (unless you have too much free time) keep your downloaded security software installer updated. Not only that, I have actually quite a number of friends having different preferences on the anti-virus/anti-malware software, so again you can’t really satisfy them all (again, unless you have too much free time). lock LockThis! Password Protect Single Applications A few weeks back you got to read about a small utility that allows you to lock your keyboard and mouse when leaving your computer on (Read here). And a while back, I told you about Predator which allows you to lock your Computer using a USB Flash Drive (Read Here). This time I\’m bringing you a way to lock single applications, so that you can leave your computer on for others to use, and at the same time protect running applications from tampering or accidental shut-down.

Windows Forums member Batupata has done it again and created another great tool for Windows: AdSevenTextEnrypter

What does this program do?

This program will run an encryption/decryption algorithm on your text so the information is protected. For example: you can encrypt some text (say with “Set one” then “Set five”), send it to a friend, and they can decrypt it at the other end (with “Set five” then “Set one”.)

Can you decrypt this?

Lock your Keyboard and Mouse, Not your Computer

KeyboardLocked Lock your Keyboard and Mouse, Not your Computer If you have cats or other pets (and kids) running loose around your house, you might have experienced that when you go away for a few minutes, you return to a document where they have “typed” their own indecipherable language. Might be a fun read, at first. But if this get to be an annoying situation, what do you do ?

Lock your Computer ?

Well, yes, you can do that. It’s just that, it too gets quite annoying over time. It takes too much time to “recover” from the Locked State. Even using the Windows-Key + L combination. If only you could type the Windows-Key + L combination to Unlock as well (Microsoft; if you’re reading this, it’s a free tip for you).

Lock Only your Keyboard and/or Mouse

I have come across a small freeware that let you not only lock your keyboard and Mouse, but also lets you decide HOW locked down they should be, while keeping the rest of your computer Un-Locked.
